About Development of Children and Women Centre (D.C.W.C) Nepal

Registered in the UK with the Charities Commission,
registered no. 1106591

The DCWCNepal is a UK based charity (Registered in the UK with the Charities Commission, no. 1106591) run by the people here at Pink Lotus Thangka. The DCWCNepal was formed to enable us to return the wonderful kindness the people of Nepal have provided us with over the years we have had the pleasure to work with them. We work in conjunction with the Nepal based charity DCWC (Development of Children and Women Centre). The DCWC is a Kathmandu based charity (government registered 1004) aimed at bringing relief to the women and children of Nepal. Nepal is a very poor country with an average annual income of 250US$ per person. The charity brings relief to these poor peoples of Nepal in many different ways. Clothes and blanket distributions in the colder places and at colder times of the year, 6-month education classes, flood relief and dental treatment are some examples. A lot of the work is undertaken in villages where the people are in the lowest brackets of the Hindu caste system. There are many different ongoing projects made possible by the very kind donations and fund raising of people as far a field as USA, Canada, Scotland, England, and Switzerland. These are enabling schools to be built providing educational facilities for 150 children at each.

For our part The DCWCNepal is run as a fund raising organisation to enable our Nepal based charity to function as efficiently as possible. We provide essential support to the DCWC by raising funds and collecting clothing. We have already undertaken many fund raising projects and have also shipped and distributed hundreds of kilograms of clothing to many different villages (despite the difficulties of trying to import second hand clothing into Nepal). We are at present undertaking a fund raising project to raise $14000 to purchase a four wheel drive to make currently inaccessible areas, desperate for help, accessible. One of the ways in which we raise funds is by taking yearly charity treks to Everest Base Camp. Beyond this our projects are ever expanding to include a whole variety of ways to bring help to Nepal. Our ongoing projects include – school and school hostel building, education classes for adults, medical and health projects, water supply and sanitation, irrigation projects, health camps, plantation activities, agricultural and livestock training and stock provision, skill development for unemployed youths, human resources development programs, etc.

If you feel you would like to help us in any way please feel free to contact us at mail@dcwcnepal.org or contact Gary or Sharon on 00441253 788434. Any help is greatly appreciated by us, our colleagues in Nepal and of course mostly by the very grateful children and women themselves.
